A Puggle is an example of creating dog hybrids.  Dog hybrids are also known as crossbreeds.  Puggles are the results of mating a female beagle with a male pug.  These mixes are planned to obtain certain characteristics in the new puppy.

Appearance:

Puggles tend to be between 15 and 30 pounds, and stand 10-15 inches at the shoulders.  They can considered lap dogs because of the relatively small size and demeanor.  While colors vary, the majority are fawn colored.  Some Puggles are completely black, while others are multicolored, such as those who are a mix of brown, black, fawn and white.

Care:

Puggles require low maintenance.  The occasional bath, nail trimming and ear cleaning is all that is required.  A puggle is not a hypoallergenic dog.

Temperament:

While not hyperactive, puggles are generally high-energy dogs and usually require regular exercise, whether in the form of regular walks or backyard play.  Puggles get along well with children, other dogs and other household pets.
